Rant below, so... yeah.
Tatra T87 for your time.
So for all the people with power in the whole deal that is the Kinja platform, we need to have a talk. This is specifically about the “You may also like” section off to the left of the content. I’m not exactly sure who controls it, or if it’s done automatically by a computer, but can we not have porn - related articles on this. I’m not interested and really wish stuff like that wouldn’t pop up.
Right there ^ That’s the thing I’m talking about.
So that’s my little rant. I’m better now.

Ooh a VR channel. Thanks for sharing.

It seems like basic Internet etiquette to not have even mildly NSFW content as a lede image or on a sidebar.

Welcome to Gawker media.
Unless the appeals court brings the HH decision down by a couple digits, you can expect EVAN MOAR lowest common denominator crap like this.
And no, the MP writers don’t control it.

adblock pro and block element. Though I super agree, this solution has kept the sites SFW for me.

That’s why I posted the Tatra first. I’m just want them to have a filter.

On mobile I don’t have this problem. There’s less recommended crap and it’s a more private manner of viewing the site. I also only visit the “front page” maybe once a week, at best.

You’d know that if you followed Gizmodo on Twitter.

Yeah.... I was kinda hoping that at least they can put a filter on it.

Also, the new format is fucking annoying. And mobile remains nearly unusable.

I did not know you could do that. Thanks.

Yeah. It’s a little better on mobile for most of the time.

I just wanted to start with stuff that might not require major Kinja changes. But I totally agree.

The least gawker can do is search our cookies and search history to show relevant ads.

Do you expect TMZ to have a clean SFW page ?
Gawker is in the same smut peddling business, don’t forget that, and as much as Oppo likes to distance itself from Jalopnik and Gawker, never forget that we are just there squatting their servers.

It’s come up before, Patrick (and Matt before him) don’t really like it either. I’m sure if they complain, this specific example will disappear, but more will follow.

Wow, FP sure is getting cluttered.
I’m not just referring to the ads. You’ve got the “skybox” up top, the “you may also like” posts on the side, and at the bottom of the page there’s the “more from this blog” bar, which is nothing more than a sampling of what you would see anyway upon clicking “more stories”.

I’m not against sharing articles, I just want SFW home pages. I realize we’re on their servers.

No, what I’m saying is they don’t do that. They SHOULD do that. I know they do t do that because if they did, I’d have diecast ads spamming me.
The specific ad in question, the one with VR, seems to be a Gizmodo post, which is the problem. It’s essentially a cross-post without physical sharing it. It’s a “oh you must like cars, so you must like woman! Woman = porn, so here’s a post about VR porn!” crosspost. So it's really unavoidable. The author of the post is to blame really.

It’s the best. You can really clean up the FP. Getting rid of the sidebar and the top bar makes it feel like old times.

I’m disappointed that I got rid of my Google Cardboard a while back...
Looks like it’s time to get an Oculus or a Vive.

Totally agree. My boss walked in while I was on FP during my lunch break and asked “what the hell is that?”. Truthfully, I hadn’t even noticed it at the moment (the page had just loaded), but it didn’t make any difference. Fortunately he understands that things happen, but stuff like that is how the site gets blocked. Also, it’s really awkward trying to explain Jalopnik to a non-enthusiast.
